My Brainstorm thread of humanity

Dipped in the blood, the dust, and the dirt…

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the foundation of Ancient Bards, we are going to play in several cities in the Netherlands and it got me to think of the last time we went there.

On November, 12th 2015 Ancient Bards was playing in London, at the Underworld. I had some nice footage of us freaking out about going down the Eurotunnel and then trying to stick to the right side of the road, but I accidentally canceled everything!
Anyway, the show went great, we had fun on stage and I have to say that the number of people who showed up at the venue was larger than we expected, we met a lot of old and new friends and that felt nice. It was a good night, rainy, but good.

After spending the night in Camden it was time to get on the road again, we had a train to catch! We had a day off before the gig in Apeldoorn, so we took our time to take a look around on our way to Arnhem where we were going to sleep that night. The underwater convoy took us to Calais, from there we went to Oostende to see the Atlantic Wall, then made a quick detour to visit the beautiful Bruges and got to Arnhem for dinner.

I loved that day. I remember feeling so happy, I enjoyed every minute with my friends of Ancient Bards and Dadda (which is fortunate, considering we’re always so close together in the small space we have to share in the van) and, in spite of all the time spent driving, I liked being in 4 different countries in one day, hearing people talk in English, then French, then Walloon, then Dutch. I felt like a true World Citizen (ok, maybe just European, but still).

It’s when we arrived in Arnhem and could connect to a WIFI network that we discovered what horrible things were happening in Paris. Needless to say, we were all petrified and deeply sad.

The next day we drove to Apeldoorn with a heavy heart.
Enjoying music, watching our favorite band, having a drink with friends, grabbing a bite in the fresh air… they’re things we all do, nice little things that make life worth living, little drops of happiness.
In a moment, the sacredness of life and freedom were violated again, and it happened to the concert goers, the beverage drinkers and the food eaters of Paris this time.

The majority of people were killed during a concert. How many times did we go to a concert? How many times did I sing at a concert? A lot. And I was going to play at one more that very night, at Brainstorm Festival. All the bands there were pretty shaken. Te organization called a minute of silence and then everyone paid their respects to the victims with a long heartfelt applause.

When our time to get onstage came, we were ready. I had to warm up thoroughly because my voice didn’t feel quite in shape, but I was fine. Fine, until I started singing and realized that some of the lyrics, which I always associated with something fictional, were getting all too real. I tried to keep it together even when, during The Last Resort, the image of the kings dipped in the blood really started to get to me.

There was nothing I could do but to dedicate the next song, In My Arms, to the victims and everyone affected by the tragedy. I didn’t do it to be dramatic and it’s not even like dedicating something to someone who can’t hear you is going to change anything. But that was another song of loss, death, and pain and I needed the audience’s support.

I received it.

Maybe I was just in over my head, but I swear I never felt that emotional during a gig. I think the audience felt it, because everyone was with me, kinda like we were all holding hands. In fact, there are no videos of that song on youtube, I like to think that it’s because that was a moment not to be lived through the filter of a screen (perhaps there are tons of vids that simply weren’t posted, who knows!).

The bards left me and Daniele alone on the stage at the end. Then we exited too and my hands were shaking. I was shivering all over. It was a very powerful experience, whether it was all in my head or shared between me and the audience. I am thankful for the things I felt that night, I cherish them because I think it’s important to value these connections between humans.

Thank you, everyone at Brainstorm Festival, I hope to see you again! As a matter of fact, I’d like to invite you all to see us again, hopefully on a lighter mood this time, whenever you can when we come nearby.

Till nex time,

All Stranger Things Sara

Be an Eleven

All Stranger Things Sara

All [Stranger]Things Sara

I’m pretty sure lots of you have watched Stranger Things by now, it’s a huge hit and everyone is talking about it. To those who haven’t seen it yet, I have to tell you, it’s definitely worth a watch. If you’re into that ’80s – Spielberg – Carpenter nostalgia, this TV series is for you!

There’s a number of things that I find to be excitingly good in this Netflix series, one that I have to highlight is most certainly the cast. Every character is portrayed and brought to life perfectly by the actors, there’s a fantastic Winona Ryder and don’t even get me started on the kids, just impressive!

Since there is a lot of buzz around Stranger Things, it’s not unusual to stumble upon pictures, images, articles and videos on the internet in reference to it. I’ve read an interesting article about how they came up with the design for the opening credits and the art of the title, but there is one image that really really tickled my enthusiasm.

I’ll try not to be spoilery, but to fully understand what I’m referring to, those of you who haven’t seen it should maybe watch the show first and then come back and read on. I don’t wanna ruin it for you!

Ok, the image I’m talking about (does it perhaps classify as a meme?) is this:

In a world of 10s, be an Eleven

I think this image can be read on three different levels, which I find to be all rather encouraging, inspiring and empowering:

  1. In a highly competitive world, where lots of people are tremendously good at what they do, you need set the bar higher and go the extra mile to achieve your dreams. Sometimes we all feel like some people’s expertise or talent are unreachable, we feel like they’re all 10s and nobody can get better than that, but you know what? It doesn’t matter, there is always room for improvement, so, if you wanna stand out, work hard and, instead of aiming for 10, aim for 11. Push yourself to a new level of greatness. You may never be the absolute best, but you will be the better version of yourself, and nobody can be a better you than YOU. Nobody. You’re unique, so let your uniqueness grow and shine!
  2. Always in this highly competitive world a lot of the times, though, people say or make you believe they are a 10. Maybe they are, maybe they are not. My suggestion is: never judge others even if you know for sure they’re all just smoke and mirrors. Let them be, learn from them and go your own way, let them talk the talk while you walk the walk. In humble silence, let your actions define you, truly BE an Eleven. Everyone will know your worth without you telling them.
  3. It can also be read as a statement of validation of diversity. Perhaps you feel like you’re surrounded by people who think they’ve got everything figured out, all 10s living just to fit the mold, doing what all the other great 10s are doing. Perhaps you are different, the 10s put in your head the idea that you are a 4, a 5, or a 6… have you ever thought that you’re an Eleven instead? I think you may be, so feel free to express yourself in new magnificent ways those 10s can’t even imagine!

The bottom line is: BE EXCEPTIONAL.

Be exceptionally good,
exceptionally kind,
exceptionally talented,
exceptionally funny,
exceptionally insightful,
exceptionally helpful,
exceptionally smart,
exceptionally skillful,
exceptionally exceptional at whatever you want.

What do you think of the meme? And did you love watching Stranger Things as much as I did? I’m curious to know your thoughts, so leave a comment if you want!

I hope you’re having an exceptionally beautiful day!

Take care,

When the road takes its toll, music hurts.

It wasn’t too long ago that you could read headlines like this one:

“Three People Dead In Van Crash Involving Heavy Metal Bands KHAOTIKA, WORMREICH”
(Read more here)

or like this one:

“THE GHOST INSIDE Members In Critical Condition After Fatal Bus Crash”
(Read more here)

Today my heart is hurting because I read another horrible story like the ones reported above and I’m feeling uneasy. Metal In Italy, among many others, reported the news about a car accident happened last night on an Italian highway, where 4 musicians lost their lives: a truck, out of control, invaded the opposite lane crushing the van they were traveling in (News in Italian here).

I am extremely touched by this not only because I’ve always been literally scared to death of going around on the road, especially at night and on small vehicles, but also because I recently found myself in a terribly dangerous situation and I can’t help thinking that things could have gone differently and end horribly for me too. I could be overreacting, but I honestly feel like survivor.

After the amazing night Ancient Bards had in Milan (at LT’s Rhapsody’s last show of the tour), we got in the car at 1:00 heading back home. Needless to say we were tired but in full condition for driving (we wouldn’t take the risk of driving when too exhausted). So, long story short, we were quietly driving south when all of a sudden we (thank god!) noticed that in front of us, instead of the red lights of the back of the cars driving in our same direction, there were two frightening white lights! Some stupid woman, drunk as f**k, had taken the highway in the wrong direction. That means that we avoided a frontal crash at 120 km/h. It took me some time to let what happened sink in, because it was so absurd and unexpected that I couldn’t realize that it had actually happened. And when it finally hit me I was shocked.

It takes so little to change things and lives forever. Too many people risk their lives while doing the thing they love the most, too often on cheap vehicles loaded with expensive instruments, to play for free at a distant venue. Just to keep the dream alive.

Of course, this could happen to anyone, people working, people going on vacation, musicians, lawyers, salespersons etc. but I’m looking at things from the musician point of view and I can’t help feeling sad and worried.

Please, everyone, be safe and pay attention when driving!

If your friend has had too many shots, please, tell him/her not to get in the car;

if you’re tired and sleepy, stop, take a little nap and drive when you’re feeling refreshed.

It is our duty to do the best we can to avoid what can EASILY be avoided.

Thank you for listening,

I’m back!

Hey there everyone, I hope you’re all ok!
I’ve been off the radar lately because I’ve been fully absorbed by the preparation of my dissertation… That’s right, I finally got my college degree in building engineering and architecture!

Being a student while trying to make it as a singer wasn’t easy and I still have a long way to go in both directions, but you’ll definitely see more from me from now on. What’s for sure now is that this is the final week of LT’s Rhapsoody’s European tour and Ancient Bards will perform as supporting act in the final three Italian shows, in Bologna, Rome and Milan, together with Temperance.

It’s been a busy month full of events for me and I hope everyone who shows up to the concerts will help me celebrate!

See you on the road my friends!
Lots of love,

I am not ok with this. Not at all.

Hi everyone. I wanted to share with you something I wrote down furiously yesterday but I wasn’t sure I should publish it, so I slept on it. I decided to go for it but obscured the names (although, with some attention, the name of a page can still be deduced) to make this a general speech rather than a direct accusation to the specific person or fact. You’ll see what I mean. This is what I wrote:

“It’s Saturday and it’s pouring outside, I didn’t complain too much about it because I have so many things to do that I thought I would just take the chance and work.

But I’m writing this post instead. Today happened something that I find to be the most humiliating thing that has ever happened to me. Let me give you some context.

I know that I am somewhat of a public figure and that I should expect to get all kinds of comments from people on the internet and haters don’t really get to me, I don’t care when someone highlight my flaws when it’s clearly because they’re poor losers who hate their lives and feel like taking it out on those who actually do something with theirs. Over the years I read all sorts of atrocities: how my voice sucks, sexually aggressive comments and, of course, mockeries about my weight. It’s all fine.
What I really can’t stand is when the comments suggest a wrong image of me, when the commenter makes his own assumptions, thinks he’s got me all figured out and then says something that’s absolutely wrong. It drives me nuts!

For example when the video of Through My Veins came out on youtube, in a moment of weakness I answered to a comment that had bothered me, which I usually don’t do, because there’s really no need to. That comment said:

Such a beautiful woman and so careless with her body.”

When I read it I instantly lost it, hence my un-needed response:

“Well, sir, you don’t know the first thing about me or my body, so could you please stick to commenting about the music or the performance which this video is all about? The issue is not my looks, nor my health, which btw is SOLID.”

I should have known better and although the guy at the end made his apologies, I think it’s never good to let people see you’re butt-hurt. “So careless with her body” Why, why would you assume I don’t treat my body right? You know nothing about me or the struggles I go through. I hate that people thinks of me as someone who just eats all day. Because I DON’T.

Did someone ever show this much concern about the health of some male musician?

“Hey *insert name of chubby male musician here* I think you might be too inconsiderate with your body”.

It never happened.

I am a girl, I sing in a band and somehow this compels me to be sexually attractive, is that it? I have to. This is what girls bring to music I guess, voice and artistry come second.
This question could easily bring me to talking about the whole Female Fronted Metal dispute, on which I didn’t have a clear opinion on until lately, but I won’t talk about it because it’s a tricky matter and I have already made a digression long enough.

Let’s get to the point. My Facebook page today notified me that I had been tagged in a photo and when I clicked on the link I couldn’t believe my eyes. The name of the “tagger” was familiar, let’s just say it’s someone that has always shown to have a hard time understanding the concept of boundaries. This is the accused post, it’s from a page called *I erased the page name*:

I blurred the name of the page (not too accurately) and my private profile name, but in the picture my lovely guys Claudio, Martino, Federico and Daniele were blurred by the author. So the focus was on me.

It says:

Name: Sara Squadrani
Nationality: Italian
Feature: the greatest High C of history (literally in Italian: CHEST C, so you’re aware of the clever pun)
Sara Squadrani, for those who don’t know, is the singer of the Italian metal band Ancient Bards.
Graduate in Architecture, she was fished from MySpace by the band and elevated to the role of “sexiest voice” of the Metal planet.
All Italian pride, and so of the curvy world and the Metal world.
On her blog *link to the blog* you can find interesting posts about delicious dishes (her secrets for a BODY so harmonious and soft) and cosmetics… in addition to her BREATHTAKING photos and videos!
Her page: *link to the page*
In the first comment you’ll hear the famous Chest C

The guy clearly thought I should know about this post and tagged my page AND my private profile (and btw how can someone you’re not friends with tag you in his crap? Please help me).
This is disgusting and sexist.
Everything about it pisses me off, starting from the profile and cover images and the fact that it’s labeled as “church/religious organization”.

I’ve never felt so offended in my whole life. Here’s why:

  • The page is a sexist place created by someone who clearly has a fetish for curvy girls (don’t even get me started on the use of the word curvy). It shows and talks about women as objects, as actual objects, in a very very slimy way. I’m glad there’s people who don’t only like broomsticks, but if you like some roundness you still have to be respectful. And if you’re not respectful don’t bother to tag me to let me see and witness the way you think women must be treated in you little twisted mind.
  • “A NEW MODEL” I’m not sure what this is trying to imply. Since the page states that “the models (themselves) are sending in their pictures (here called “holy pictures”). I’m utterly annoyed by the thought that a viewer could think that I voluntarily sent in mine!! Especially because most of the pics of the page are photos of breasts. Do not mix me up with girls who choose to take pictures of themselves semi-naked in semi-sexy poses and send them to be publicly published. Plus I am NOT a model anyway, curvy models are all the rage now, but I’m just a singer. Just a singer.
  • It’s full of incorrect data:
    • I’m not graduating in Architecture, but in Building Engineering AND Architecture. There’s a big difference.
    • On my blog there are NO RECIPES (yet), the only food related stuff is a picture of some eggplant little pizzas, and the procedure is not even mentioned. My recipes are supposedly written to explain how i keep my body “harmonious and soft”.
      This is madness.
It looks like, through my non-existent recipes, I’m celebrating and encouraging my specific body image, which is THE LAST thing I wanna do. Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly healthy, but I never ever said anywhere, to anybody that I am the way I am BECAUSE I CHOSE TO. I didn’t choose to be like this, being a little fat was NEVER my intention and ALWAYS my struggle.
    • The band didn’t “fish” me from My Space. Yes, Daniele did get to know me through My space, but the post makes it look like I was some hooker with a hidden talent, that got a makeover and was turned into a singer. “Hey, what do you know, the boobs with the skank attached turned out to be believable as a singer!”

At first I wanted to flag the post as inappropriate or something, after all it associates MY face to things that I wanna know nothing about. Luckily the page has only 178 likes and could do no damage. But the problem is not the damage, it’s the principles, there are so many things that are wrong about this!
It’s ok to be passionate, even being enthusiastic about girls and their bodies, whether their skinny or chubby, but, maybe I’m the one who’s wrong, when I like something the first thing my heart cares for is showing it RESPECT. We all could just stop obsessing so much over the looks all together, but I know that’s not gonna happen.
And I am aware that in that picture there’s a bit more cleavage than usual, but hey, I have boobs, they’re a part of me, I can’t hide under a rock or always wear a habit so people won’t notice.

Weight, for me and for millions of people, is a big issue and nobody should talk about it if they never had to deal with it and if they don’t know the specific cause that led someone to gain or lose too many kg.

Ok, I can’t say I 100% satisfied with the image my mirror reflects, but I AM BEAUTIFUL anyway. I am strong and confident enough to accept that this is what I am, I may not be perfect, but I know I can work to look even better. Plus, my man loves me and cares for me without the need of putting me on a scale. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and feel so blessed to have him by my side, who cares if I’m a bit rounder? ❤

The last thing I would like to add, for those who are so deeply concerned, is that I did lose weight since I finally had some time to dedicate to myself. If anyone cares to know what I do at the gym let me know, leave a comment and I’ll write a different post, as this, quite frankly, became too long three paragraphs ago.

I love you all, positive people, I hope my rant didn’t result too bitter for you, I just needed to get it out of my system.”

So this is it. I tried to be as clear as possible about the reasons I was upset and my position on the subject. I’d love to hear your thoughts about this, feel free to leave a comment. If you agree with me, and care to spread this story, please share this post so I can get more feedback.

My heart is with all of you fighting for your DIGNITY.

Take care!

These are a few of my favorite things – September

I didn’t make it in time this month, September is already over and I haven’t posted my favorites yet. I’m planning how to be more consistent with this blog and regularly post more interesting stuff for you guys, it’s more complicated than I thought it would be, but it will happen, wait and see! Since this delay kinda feels like an epic fail, I’ll go through everything very quickly.

As one of my previous post sad I went for thee days to La Villa in Badia, in the stunningly beautiful dolomites. We weren’t too lucky with the weather, we didn’t get much sun and it started raining heavily while we were walking at 2200 meters above sea-level, but, boy, was it awesome anyway! When the rain stopped we could see it pour on the mountains around us while from time to time a little ray of sun pierced through the clouds and hit us. The contrast between the lit field where we stood and the stormy heights all around was simply breathtaking! Plus, the hotel we stayed at was perfect, a small cuddly place full of kindness and comfort. I hope I’ll have the chance to go back, someday!

I was looking forward to this release, when I watch this video it takes me back to that stage, the energy coming from the crowd was priceless, we all had such a great time at WOA!

I had the pleasure to go to the cinema to see Roger Waters The Wall, a movie containing the famous live show. Needless to say it was an amazing experience, the music, the visual effects, the story, everything was theatrically perfect, each song had a huge, impetuous impact, with several emotional moments. I find the idea of mixing the concert with some “reality” truly brilliant, it gives it an added depth. The point of view shot and the end where Roger stares at the sea is extremely powerful.

Yes, girly stuff again. But I have that obsession for nail polish and I’m glad I found this purple-pink-taupy shade: Layla Gel Polish in number 3 “Natural Cover” which is semipermanent, and the matching Kiko one in the color number 137, which is a traditional polish.

An for my other obsession, make up tools, this sponge. I’ve been wanting to try the famous Beauty Blender for ages but I couldn’t get it, so when I found this at a local store I thought I would try it and I must say I really like it for buffing in my concealer!

So this is it, I’m on the hunt for cool things to like in this glorious month of October! See the enthusiasm?

See you soon my friends, take care!

Holiday scent

Hello there! This might be the least interesting post ever, but I simply have to share the excitement, because I’ll finally be able to take some much needed time off next week! Yes, I’m going on vacation and the idea is so awesome that I almost feel dizzy from all the happiness. Last time I went on vacation was is 2008 when I went to London. I didn’t really visit much because I went there to see Celine Dion’s concert and I only stayed like 2 and half days (needless to say though that I fell in love with the city!).

This is the only picture I took at the concert – I was way too busy enjoying the show to mind using my camera – she was performing My Heart Will Go On, I’m pretty sure she’s had enough of that song too, but it’s still a good tune and the scenography in that moment was breathtaking (which of course you can’t see from this crappy photo, I’m sorry).
I just can’t wait to leave, this Tuesday I’m going to the beautiful Dolomites (for 3 days) with the sole purpose of relaxing and having a good time, recharging my batteries at the SPA so I can come back and face new adventures, some of them including this blog.

So there you go, I’ll catch up with you later, take care!

These are a few of my favorite things – August

Hello folks! Summer’s almost over, how have you been doing? I hope you got to do a lot of fun stuff, see loads of concerts and took time to relax deeply. I had a very nice summer, I enjoyed some time with my loved ones and chilled to fully recharge my batteries in preparation for the next exciting winter!

On a fantastic, sunny, and very hot day I went hiking along the Ridracoli Lake, a beautiful place in the Apennines not far from where I live. This lake is actually artificial, as there’s a big dyke you can walk onto that creates a barrier that holds all the water that is then abducted and put into the water main. It’s basically the same water that comes out of my faucet every day and it’s delicious (although we receive water from the Marecchia River too, but what do you care?). In the summer there’s a huge demand of water and since it almost never rained the lake is going down by one centimeter per hour, you can see from the picture the actual level it’s supposed to be in the winter, where the vegetation starts. We took a short walk in the woods around the lake and we saw a lot of really cute fallow deers running around with their babies, adorable! We arrived at a little mountain shelter that can only be reached on foot where we had booked a table and we had some really good tagliatelle there. We chilled laying on the grass, enjoying the fauna and the clean air, then we got back to the dyke with a slooow boat ride on the lake. Such a nice day!

Davide dreaming on the piano. Photo Credit: Max Foglia

I pride myself on having an incredibly talented friend, a person with great sensitivity and an exceptional feel for communicating feelings and emotion through his playing, Maestro Davide Tura. I attended a special concert this summer, Davide played at a camping in the woods and it was just magical. The fresh air, the dark, the notes, everything was perfect and relaxing, the atmosphere Davide created was unique and I’ll never thank him enough for making me feel that good. He is a classical pianist and performs everything from Bach to Chopin, but he also has his own take on modern music and is an excellent composer. Talent is a beautiful thing, I’m so grateful that I get to experience it in different ways: the beauty of music and the majesty of nature all in one night. Precious.

Can we even go on any longer without talking about hair? We can’t. So my next favorite thing is actually been my favorite shampoo for quite some time now, it’s Dorian Grey by Lush Cosmetics. The thing that I like the most about it is the smell, lemon and violet….God, it makes me go nuts, it’s like a drug. Dorian Grey is purple shampoo that it’s supposed to be used by blondes to get rid of coppery-yellowy reflexes which aren’t nice. It is made of all natural ingredients like all of Lush’s products, but the lemon contained in this shampoo makes it very drying so you need to be careful and use it once in a while, maybe mixed with another hydrating shampoo, you’ll still be able to smell the sent in your hair afterwards. The toning effect is nice, if your hair tends to turn yellow give it a try and if you’re following the latest trend “granny hair” and you have silver locks, this must be good for you too! Being all natural it doesn’t make almost any foam, so please note that you only need a tiny amount, don’t use a bottle at a time only because you don’t see foam. Don’t forget to use a good conditioner too, who wants perfectly smelling hair that looks and feels like straw?

I love a good glass of ice cold sparkly water. I drink a lot during the day and when I’m not home I always try to carry a little bottle with me. I would typically use normal plastic bottles, but they get messed up pretty quickly when carried inside a bag and always getting new ones doesn’t feel very ecologic, so for some time I’ve been meaning to buy one of those nice glass portable bottles, but I always feared they could break into a million pieces in my full bag. I was very pleased when, strolling around the shelves of Ikea, I spotted this bottle, just what I needed! As Ikea says: “You don’t risk any spillage, as the bottle is leakproof. Can be refilled and used time after time, making it kind to the environment.”. Perfect!

As I’m sure I told you before, I’m a crazy Tv show junkie and I’m always looking for new stuff to watch, even if I’m busy I make time to watch an episode or two before sleep. This month I watched Wayward Pines. I had heard all sorts of different opinions about it and I was hooked by the adds, so I decided I had to watch it and I have to say that I enjoyed it. The plot has a few inconsistencies but it’s overall well orchestrated, making you wonder what everything is all about from start to end. Will there be a season two? I don’t know, but I could think of a couple of things that could happen.. we’ll see!

This app is the bomb! It makes creating gifs so easy that you won’t be able to resist. You can see I’ve used it above in the Dorian Gray part of the post, and I would have never done it if it meant to use photoshop to unite a bunch of photos, but with this app it’s quick and fun! For example you can turn your videos into gifs which you can use as funny “emoticons” on Facebook Messenger, I couldn’t stop laughing with some of them! Try it and let me know if it isn’t fun, you can also post your creations here, so I can see them 🙂

That’s all for August my friends, I’ll see you soon!
Take care,

These are a few of my favorite things – July

Hello everyone! So this is it, july is almost over and I’m pretty excited. It’s been a very, very busy month and the extremely high temperatures didn’t make it any lighter, but I can’t say I’m not embarassingly happy right now. Why you ask? Let me tell ya…

I know I haven’t been there yet, but I think I can’t go wrong if I nominate in advance going to Wacken Open Air at the top of the favorites of the month, can I? I’m so excited I can’t wait to leave and live this incredible experience with my beloved bards! We will play on the Headbangers Stage on July 31st at 11.55 am. Will you be there? I hope to see many of you!

My studies have been a huge and uncomfortable part of my life for the last 10, yes, 10 years. Pursuing my passion while studying to become an building engineer and architect hasn’t exactly always been a piece of cake, but now I can proudly say that I have finally finished all my exams! I am so relived, I smell freedom, all I have to do now is to finish my thesis and then I’ll be able to graduate, once and for all. Yay!

I’ve been meaning to get a new camera for a while, and I finally found an interesting one. The Samsung NX Mini is what I was looking for, a small camera with a large flip up touch sceen, a wide angled lens and wifi connection. I got it in the mint color and it looks really nice, I’m sure i twill be a great companion during my travels, I might even be vlogging now! I haven’t tested it properly yet so I can’t give you insights on the image and video quality but I’ve read nice revews. We’ll soon see how we like it!

My hair tends to get dry so I like to use an oil to give it some hydration. I normally use macadamia nut oil, but it is very thick and can look heavy so I wanted to try something different. This is a radiace treatment with oil of maracuja, brazil nut and cupuaçu extracts. I like this product a lot, it’s very lightweight and it smells heavenly! You only need coulpe of pumps on towel-dried hair and then you can go ahead with the styling. Perfect shiny hair that smells amazing, done!

This one’s actually my mom’s, I borrow it from time to time. I can’t deal with hair, I use good shampoos, masks and oils, but other than blow drying it or using a straightener I can’t do much with it. I’ve always loved some nice curls and last time I went to the hairdresser I got obsessed with waves. Babyliss’ Secret Curl is the perfect tool for dummies like me, it’s even easier than using a curling iron, you just give it a chunk of hair and it does all the work!

I was so happy to partecipate in the recording of the backing vocals for Trick or Treat’s “Rabbits Hill pt. 2”, I had fun with Alle Damna and Simone. The tracks are the bomb, I can’t wait to hear the record!

I’m sure lots of you have already seen this because it went viral, but I have to post it anyway, I’ve watched it a thousand times and I almost cried every single time. How I Became The Bomb wrote a song about this meeting between two lovers, artist Marina Abramovic and her former lover Ulay, and then created a clip with the images of the actual meeting. I love it, it’s deep, personal, powerful and violently intimate, in my opinion the song perfectly captures and frames the moment. I love their eyes.

These are a few of my favorite things – June

Hi everybody, here I am again with the list of things I’ve been enjoying lately. June has been a very intese month, but even when you’re busy and stressed like crazy it doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the little things that surround you! Let me see…

Real Techniques

It’s not a secret that I love make up and, even though I’m not very good at applying it, I very much enjoy watching those who are, especially on YouTube. Sam and Nic Chapman, known as Pixiwoo, must be my favorite YouTube make up artist, they’re very nice and talented and they launched their own brushes line, which I’ve been dying to try, because since they came out everyone has been raving so much about them! Now that I own a few of them I can see why they’re so loved, they’re amazing, considering how cheap they are. Can’t wait to put them to the test when I’ll be all tense and pumped to get on stage!

This month we rolled out our renewed web store and we loaded it with new T-Shirts, and this time the all look awesome to me! If I had to pick a favorite I’d choose the white one with the dragon logo because I love black, but white is nice for a change, plus don’t you think it looks hella cool? My second favorite must be the one with Sendor, now that he’s dead we wanted to celebrate his character with a design that could capture his essence and I think we accomplished our aim. Did you see the store? Which one is your favorite?
What kind of merch items would you like to see in the future in our store? Please tell us your ideas, we have many, but we want to give priority to your requests, whenever possible 🙂

You can’t always only like actual things, right? Moments, people, feelings are all worthy of my list of “things” I love. For example I’ve been loving rehearsing for Ancient Bards’ upcoming shows. Rehearsals can be very annoying and tiring, hours and hours to perfect every detail in what becomes pretty quickly a smelly, loud and hot environment. But we’re so pumped to be playing at Wacken Oper Air that we’re happy to rehearse, the setlist is exciting and it’s always a real pleasure to spend time with my bards anyway. And to be honest playing at Woodoo Sound Labs is a piece of cake, it doesn’t get THAT smelly and the service in great (thanks Guido!).
Awww don’t you just love when you’re having a good time?

My beautiful cousin Paola got married on the 13th and, since she loves  Love Actually a lot, we recreated as a surprise a scene from that movie, and we did it in our own way. They celebrated the ceremony outdoors, the nave was created by raws of trees and beyond the altar there was a breathtaking panoramic view of the hills and the sea. My other cousins, my aunts and uncles where all involved, we sang her All You Need Is Love walking towards her and the groom along the aisle, while some of us played fake styrofoam trumpets among the other guests. It was hilarious and seeing Paola get moved was very sweet. One of the highlights of the month for sure!

Should we indulge some more in the romantic side of life? Seeing my Instagram feed I realized I developed an obsession for sunsets, I do post a lot of pictures at sundown, and I have tons more on my phone. Oh come on, is it my fault if lately the sky’s been wearing the prettiest colors you could ever see? It’s astonishing! I always restrain myself thinking “do not post another picture, nobody cares about your stupid sunsets!”, but sometimes I just can’t resist, the spectacle of nature is just too beautiful and needs to be celebrated. Sometimes the sun going to sleep just adds that touch of extra glittery magic, creating the perfect setting for a memorable moment with that special someone ❤

This might sound ridiculous, but I’m glad I finally had the time to go to the hairdresser to fix my hair! The last time my hair saw a pair of scissors was last August before Made Of Metal, you can imagine how damaged my ends could be. I didn’t change a whole lot in my look, because I still wasn’t sure what to do, so I just shortened it a little and made it lighter for summer.  I’m awful with hair, I can’t style them in any way, I usually just blow dry them and let them be, so I felt like a princess when the stylist gave me those bouncy curls!

So this is it!
See you next month my friends, take care!
